The Birds & The Bees

25Mar

Spring is in full swing in Georgia after a COLD winter!  Finally!  We thought we’d sweeten the deal by offering a new cupcake decorating class for all of you lovely dames in the Atlanta area.  We will be learning about the birds and the bees….no, not literally!  I will leave that fun job up to the junior high health instructor as I don’t consider myself adequately qualified:)  Instead, we will learn to make fondant birds and bees.  How fun are these?! (Pictures compliments of the lovely Erin Chupp Sintos of course:)

Jon’s XBOX 360

25Mar

Jon’s 30th birthday was this past weekend.  When his cake was ordered he was described as “the guy that still likes superheros and video games.”  I thought “AHA!”  I know just the cake for him!  I have done these cakes in the past and will be doing one for Mark Porter and Rachael Fichtner as a groomscake in June.  Isn’t it fun?!

Congrats Audrey and Chris!

24Mar

Audrey and her boyfriend Chris’ 5 year anniversary was on St. Pattys day!  The couple were just recently engaged (her ring is AMAZING!) and plan to get married next February.  A little birdie told me they are interested in cupcakes for their wedding…I think I know the perfect place!  Audrey ordered a St. Patty’s day/Anniversary cake (Guinness flavored of course) for Chris as a Surprise.  Best of luck in wedding planning and congrats to the two of you!

Scott’s Surprise Cupcakes!

23Mar

Yesterday I received a phone call from a Ms. Dotte Collins of Dallas, Texas looking to find cupcakes to surprise her boyfriend (Mr. Scott Meyer) for his birthday.  Dotte was a little hesitant as she wasn’t sure if cupcakes were “appropriate” for a man.  My response…”you’d be surprised how much men enjoy a tasty cupcake.”  I find they especially enjoy the flavors Guinness, Cookies and Cream, and Reese cup.  I have had several women come in and ask not to get a receipt because they prefer not to leave a paper trail of where they’ve been.  Husbands and boyfriends tend to get jealous and/or upset if cupcakes are not brought home :)   Dotte chose a few flavors, had me write a message, and gave me the address to Scott’s office and the surprise was underway.  Both sent emails of gratitude which I very much appreciate.  It makes my day to know that I made someone else’s.  Thanks you Scott and Dotte!  Check out Scott’s surprise cakes below. Also, to answer Scott’s question in his email on whether or not I finished the pink sock monkey I was knitting when I did my first blog…of course not.  It wound up in the closet somewhere.  Since then I have started and left unfinished numerous projects including an extremely large oil painting.  I always start out with high hopes and good intentions only to be distracted by bakery orders (which I love!)  Duty calls!

Hannah’s Birthday Cake!

23Mar

Hannah was just recently diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease and can no longer consume anything with gluten in it.  Melanie, Hannah’s mother, came into the bakery last week to inquire on whether or not we make gluten free cakes and the answer…Yes!  I believe that everyone deserves a birthday cake.  Therefore, Miss Mamie’s does Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Sugar Free…and the list goes on.  I am always open to trying new flavors gluten free.  Hannah wanted a Strawberry cake with Vanilla Buttercream and Chocolate Ganache filling.  Yum!  Melanie didn’t know exactly what design she wanted but she knew she wanted it to be fun, funky, and with bright colors.  Below is what I came up with.  Happy Birthday Hannah!

Virginia’s Birthday Cake!

16Mar

Rob Groover came in last week to order a  cake for his mother’s (Virginia’s) birthday.  I know I have mentioned it before but the best part about my job is when people don’t really know what kind of design they are looking for.  Rob said “something real nice…and pretty.”  Knowing Virginia (she happens to be my landlord)  I thought something sweet and charming was the way to go.  I’ve had a cake design that I’ve been eyeing recently and couldn’t wait for the chance to try it out.  Just so happens that Virginia was the perfect candidate!  Let me know what you think!

Mom & Dad’s Cake Balls!!!

11Mar

Mom called a couple weeks ago with the big news…Cake balls are apparantely are the latest and greatest new treat!  They originated in Austin, Texas at a Neiman Marcus and make great little fancy deserts.  Mom has been pestering me to make them so I thought I would send a few to Florida with Ross.  I made some margarita flavored ones for Mom and some chocolate ones for Dad.  I had lots of fun making them but I must admit it took me quite some time.  I am not adequately equipped for these little guys!  I thought they were precious though and I must share them with you!IMG_0578

Samen’s Surprise Cake!

11Mar

Last week I received a call from a man in Germany by the name of Samen Nana Christel Alain.  After speaking with him for quite awhile (I’m not very learned in German accents) I deciphered that he was looking to order a cake for his girlfriend Nicole’s 25th birthday.  Samen lives in Germany, and Nicole lives in Marietta…talk about a long distance relationship!  He had a very good idea of what it was he wanted and he wished for it to be delivered to her home on the day of her birthday.  How romantic, right?!  I love working with customers to design the perfect cake.  Even if they live halfway around the world!

Campbell’s 2nd Birthday Cake!

6Mar

Campbell Brown is turning 2 today!  Campbell and her parents, Jeff and Amy, used to live across the street from Steve and Marcia.  Josie used to babysit for Campbell when she was just a baby, and I was lucky enough to make Campbell’s first birthday cake!  This year, Jeff came in with Campbell’s party dress and wanted something to “match” or “go along” with it.  I put my thinking cap on and came up with something as “sweet” and “dainty” as the Birthday girl herself.  I feel honored to be a part of Campbell’s milestones and hope to continue watching her grow over the years.  So here is the party girl with her cake!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMPBELL!!!
