Celebrating 4 Amazing Women!

15Apr

This year was the 2nd annual Birthday celebration for my Mom, Aunt Sandra, Marcia (cousin) and Rachel (cousin.) Being down in Florida for a few days in the spring we all decided it would be a good idea to celebrate the April birthdays. Last year I baked a cake while on vacation…this year was a different story. I wanted to take full advantage of my time off so I made cupcakes ahead of time and carried them on the plane. Having several orders already I had to find something relatively easy, something that would travel well but still be really special to the Birthday girls. After much thought I decided to do photo toppers featuring old pictures of the girls on their favorite flavored cupcake. For Mom the Margarita, for Aunt Sandra the Strawberry, for Marcia the Blueberry, and for Rachel the Cookie Dough. The cupcakes were a hit and I didn’t have to worry about anything getting smashed in transit! Easy peezy lemon squeezy!

Roni’s Pyramid Cakes

14Apr

Roni’s husband was celebrating his 40th Birthday this past weekend at the “W” hotel in Buckhead! A lavish party calls for a grand cake! Grand it was…it required a trip to Home Depot to get a board that would be big (and strong) enough to support the cakes! Two Red Velvets with One Guinness all covered in fondant and airbrushed metallic gold. Ross and I had a hard time carrying it out to the front of the store it was so heavy! Roni had to put seats down in the back of her car to transport the desserts. Sometimes…no most of the time…no pretty much all the time I wish I could see the parties that my cakes go off to. I mean, if there were pyramid cakes then I can only imagine what else was at the party!

Kathy’s First Birthday!

13Apr

Kathy’s young aunt came in to order a First Birthday Cake for her special day. When I met with Kathy’s aunt I could tell she loved to spoil the little gal…after all, who doesn’t love a cute niece or nephew?! The best part…you can pick them up when you want to spend time with them…and then you can return them after you feed them Cupcakes and Mountain Dew. (At least that’s what my family likes to do!) Kathy’s party was Tinkerbelle themed with Purple being the main color. A strawberry and white cake with 3 layers of Strawberry coulis…YUM! Delicious and messy (as all first birthdays should be) this cake was the talk of the store last Friday. HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY KATHY!

The Dude.

Howard John, Howie, Howitzer, Little Jimmy, Little Jim Jim. The Guy. The Dude. Those are a few of the many names we have dedicated to our scruffy little man. Isn’t he gorgeous?! Don’t you just want to squeeze his fat rolls?! I think I officially crossed the line of being obsessed with him when I acquired over 250 pictures of him on my phone. I can’t help it! (Sorry to all my family and friends that constantly get text messages from Howard with attached photos…he’s just trying to stay connected!) I know that getting a dog right after opening a business is not the smartest decision I’ve ever made, but I honestly don’t know what I would do without him now. He does the funniest, craziest things and he is 100% dependent even though he thinks he’s a tough guy. I can’t wait to come home at the end of every work day to meet my little guy. What is it about dogs that makes them so easy to love anyways?!

P.S. Howard cannot wait to visit Cheboygan this summer so he can meet all of his relatives…especially Uncle Rusty who is rumored to have shared many Arby’s french fries with little dogs in the past!:)

Congratulations Dr. Hensley!

12Apr

Mr. Hensley walked into the shop with his lovely girlfriend looking for a special cake to celebrate his graduation. He is a recent graduate of Life University, a local chiropractic school. The two were celebrating with their closest family and friends and wanted something worthy of Hensley’s accomplishments. Adding a “Dr.” to one’s name is a pretty big deal if you ask me!! Something special, something funky, maybe something with a spine? Hmmmm…..here is what I came up with…
