Hannah was just recently diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease and can no longer consume anything with gluten in it. Melanie, Hannah’s mother, came into the bakery last week to inquire on whether or not we make gluten free cakes and the answer…Yes! I believe that everyone deserves a birthday cake. Therefore, Miss Mamie’s does Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Sugar Free…and the list goes on. I am always open to trying new flavors gluten free. Hannah wanted a Strawberry cake with Vanilla Buttercream and Chocolate Ganache filling. Yum! Melanie didn’t know exactly what design she wanted but she knew she wanted it to be fun, funky, and with bright colors. Below is what I came up with. Happy Birthday Hannah!
Virginia’s Birthday Cake!
Rob Groover came in last week to order a cake for his mother’s (Virginia’s) birthday. I know I have mentioned it before but the best part about my job is when people don’t really know what kind of design they are looking for. Rob said “something real nice…and pretty.” Knowing Virginia (she happens to be my landlord) I thought something sweet and charming was the way to go. I’ve had a cake design that I’ve been eyeing recently and couldn’t wait for the chance to try it out. Just so happens that Virginia was the perfect candidate! Let me know what you think!
Mom & Dad’s Cake Balls!!!
Mom called a couple weeks ago with the big news…Cake balls are apparantely are the latest and greatest new treat! They originated in Austin, Texas at a Neiman Marcus and make great little fancy deserts. Mom has been pestering me to make them so I thought I would send a few to Florida with Ross. I made some margarita flavored ones for Mom and some chocolate ones for Dad. I had lots of fun making them but I must admit it took me quite some time. I am not adequately equipped for these little guys! I thought they were precious though and I must share them with you!
Samen’s Surprise Cake!
Last week I received a call from a man in Germany by the name of Samen Nana Christel Alain. After speaking with him for quite awhile (I’m not very learned in German accents) I deciphered that he was looking to order a cake for his girlfriend Nicole’s 25th birthday. Samen lives in Germany, and Nicole lives in Marietta…talk about a long distance relationship! He had a very good idea of what it was he wanted and he wished for it to be delivered to her home on the day of her birthday. How romantic, right?! I love working with customers to design the perfect cake. Even if they live halfway around the world!
Campbell’s 2nd Birthday Cake!
Campbell Brown is turning 2 today! Campbell and her parents, Jeff and Amy, used to live across the street from Steve and Marcia. Josie used to babysit for Campbell when she was just a baby, and I was lucky enough to make Campbell’s first birthday cake! This year, Jeff came in with Campbell’s party dress and wanted something to “match” or “go along” with it. I put my thinking cap on and came up with something as “sweet” and “dainty” as the Birthday girl herself. I feel honored to be a part of Campbell’s milestones and hope to continue watching her grow over the years. So here is the party girl with her cake! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMPBELL!!!
Memere
I found this picture and had to post it! This is my Grandmother Doris Ross…we call her Memere. She is the mother of 11 children including my mom Betsy (Ross) Doyle, the Grandmother of twenty grandchildren, and the Great Grandmother to 14 great grandchildren! Needless to say she is much loved and the backbone of our very busy family. She is the reason we all stay connected. I adore this photo and am thinking it would look very nice framed and hanging in Miss Mamie’s somewhere. Isn’t she beautiful?! I bet Pepere felt like one lucky dude to have these girls waiting at home at the end of the day!
Josie’s Mixer
So for Christmas this year I decided to “regift” one of my Kitchen Aid mixers to Josie so she could bake things at home. I knew that the plain old white mixer simply would not do….so I remade it! It took several trips to WalMart and Home Depot, some online research, a bag of steel wool, and several prayers and wishes. I was pretty excited about the end product and Josie was thrilled with it! So if you have and old Kitchen Aid at home that needs a facelift all you need is:
1.Steel Wool
2. Kilz Spraypaint Primer
3. Whatever spraypaint color you want as a background.
4. Paint pens to draw a design (found in the craft section).
5. A glossy spray can sealer.
If you have any questions give me a call and I’ll walk you through it!
Tasha Jackson’s Baby Shower!
Tasha Jackson from Montana had her baby shower with Miss Mamie’s this past month. Lisa Quilis, Tasha’s sister in-law planned the shower for her while she was in Marietta visiting family. The party went off without a hitch and was completely adorable. Tasha has one son (Bridger) and is expecting a little girl soon! I watched her open all her shower gifts and was almost jealous at how many cute little outfits she got! That little gal is sure to be the best dressed baby in town! The photo below includes Tasha’s Mother in-law, Lisa, Tasha, Tasha’s son Bridger, and Tasha’s Mom.
Josie’s 15th Birthday Cake!
Last wednesday the twins (Chase & Josie) turned 15! Josie called and asked for a strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream. Knowing her favorite colors are pink and orange I whipped this little cake up for her to sweeten her day! The design was inspired by Kate Sullivan…who I absolutely adore. The cake looked cute at the party and even better when we added candles!
Hannah’s Reeses Cupcake
Hannah Krzeminski is a Marietta High School senior who came to intern at Miss Mamie’s beginning in January. She is a sweet, bright, and talented young lady and I love having her here to help during the week! I must say I feel a little young to be responsible in guiding Hannah through her internship when I just finished my own last fall! As a result, her time spent here feels more like hanging out and having fun than anything. On Hannah’s first day I asked her what flavor cupcake she wanted to make. Rather than going with one of the flavors that we already had on the menu she invented her own! One hour later the Reese cupcake was born! I must say, it was a brilliant idea as Hannah’s cupcake increases in sales each week. Check out Hannah and her addition to the menu! Or come by and try it for yourself!
